My friend Angie is having a baby shower for her little newborn Emerson in a few weeks and among several other things, I decided that I wanted to make her a sign for the baby’s room.

Remember these Burlap Monogram Signs I have been making?

Well, they have been a big hit! I have made (and sold) several already. {the tutorial HERE}

But…I wanted to do a little something different this time.

Angie told me the color pallet for Emerson’s room and so I decided on a 20″ x 20″ sign that had all E’s on it. So I used my the Fairy Cuts program on the Cricut to make a 15″ x 15″ square design and then cut out half at a time on contact paper. Then I put the stencil down and started painting with a bunch of different colors.

This is what I ended up with:

When I made the other burlap signs I did several layers of paint so that I could give it a dimensional look. For this project I decided I wanted to give the whole thing an antiqued look. {I must note here that I was a little heavy handed with the paint while stenciling so it is a little messier than usual.}

So I started with the staining antiquing medium and added a LITTLE bit of dark brown paint. Seriously, start with only a little bit!

Then I used a natural sponge to lightly dab the transparent brown paint over the whole thing. Once done with the paint I went the sponge and went over and evened it out a bit.

Here is an upclose view of the antiquing on the letters. I didn’t want to make it too dark.

And here it is framed and hanging!

I am pretty happy with the way it came out. I think she will like it and I hope it looks good in the nursery! I still have some more stuff I am making for Emerson so I will post those projects when finished.

If you haven’t added as a follower I would really appreciate it if you did! Also, be sure to swing back by here on Friday for “You Sew Rock Me Fridays” where I highlight my favorite 10 projects of the craft world this week.

Until later, happy crafting!
