I had a lot of fun making my Orange Burlap Halloween Sign so I thought I would whip up a little something for Thanksgiving.

I started thinking stripes but I ended up with plaid. It was kind of neat to try something new. I will definitely try to plaid up some burlap again!

Here’s how I painted the plaid pattern on the burlap:

I taped off the first set of horizontal stripes and painted them in with two different colors – yellow gold and orange.

I put a set of vertical stripes on and paint in alternating squares with a little darker versons of yellow and orange.

I removed all the tape and this is what I had:

Then I re-taped over some of the areas I already painted so that I could paint some of the the unpainted burlap a gold color. I left the two horizontal stripes in the middle unpainted.

I removed  the horizontal stripes and put the vertical stripes back on. But then I realized I shouldn’t have removed them so I had to put little sections back on. I painted these sections a darker gold. I also painted the rest of the horizontal columns gold (which I should have done the first time!).

And here’s the finished plaid:

Then I designed my image, cut it with my Cricut out of contact paper, and then painted the stencil.

And here’s the final product!

I really like how it came out! I actually didn’t plan on painting plad originally, I was just going to do some strips but you know how projects just evolve sometimes!

Last weekend I snagged some red burlap on clearance at Hobby Lobby so you know I am going to be whipping up a Christmas sign! But I’m not sure what it is going to say yet. You can check out my post on making Burlap Monogram Signs if you want some other tips on painting burlap .

Until later, happy crafting!
