So I love refried beans and I love black beans but when it comes to refried black beans out of a can I think they are horrible! I don’t know why! So I starting making my own faux refried black beans a few years back. They are simple and deelish!
First take a can of black beans (or you can use homemade) and your favorite salsa – any flavor will do.
Drain the beans and rinse. I like to use a collapsable strainer for berries. It is the perfect size for one can.
Then put the beans in a blending apparatus. I use my trusty magic bullet. Now add salsa…but NOT TOO MUCH! Try about covering 1/4 the amount of beans. You don’t want to use too much or it will be salsa soup with beans! :)
Now blend. Add a little bit of salsa as needed. I usually take mine off once the bottom half has blended and shake it and blend the rest. Again, you don’t want it too runny!
Viola! Consistency of refried beans but with out the refried part! Heat as usual.
These are great for tacos or even bean dip. I have gotten tons of compliments whenever I use them. You can even use sweet salsa or mix in spices for a different flavor.
Try them out with my awesome easy homemade corn tortillas!
Until later, happy cooking!

This is super smart, Jamie. I love that you used your bullet. I feel sort of silly that I’ve chased beans around a bowl with the back of a spoon trying to mash them!! And where did you get the cool collapsable strainer? That’s genius.
I’d love for you to come link this up at my Tuesday Time Out Party!
